Our services

Shelter

The Women’s Shelter doors opened in 1985 and offered a full range of programs for victims of domestic violence.

Since that time, we have provided services to approximately 50 families per year. We are able to offer safe shelter, food, and clothing.

The staff and volunteers for the shelter offer a 24-hour hotline for victims of domestic violence. The hotline number for domestic violence is 760-375-7525.

Available services have grown over the years to include domestic violence counseling for women, children, and men who are victims of domestic violence.

We also provide group counseling regarding the role of drugs and alcohol in a violent home and assistance with domestic violence restraining orders.

Some of our services are available to people who have not been shelter occupants but are still in domestic violence situations and need support services.

The shelter program offers up to a 35-day stay in a confidential location.

While in residence at the shelter, clients are offered counseling, job skills support parenting classes, and most importantly a safe, secure location to re-evaluate their lives and make plans for the future.

Staff and volunteers work closely with clients and other community agencies and shelters outside our immediate area to provide referrals and possible re-location options or opportunities as needed.

The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)

The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) is designed to meet the needs of victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse. State-certified trained staff and volunteers offer:

  • Law enforcement accompaniment.

  • Emergency room accompaniment and support.

  • Accompaniment and *advocacy for all legal meetings and court appearances.

  • One-on-one peer counseling as well as the availability of staff therapists for more extensive counseling and support.

  • A proactive rape prevention education program working with schools, community, civic, and religious organizations.

  • Personal safety and self-defense programs are available to anyone interested.

Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO)

We are not allowed to give legal advice and do not assist with divorce or child custody issues.

We assist with understanding what the restraining order can do for them and the protection it provides, paperwork preparation, and court submittal.

To receive assistance with a restraining order, a survivor may come in and pick up a preliminary informational packet to be filled out. It may be completed while in the office or taken home, filled out, and returned to the Women’s Center.

Court Advocacy

A client of the Women’s Center may request a certified court advocate to accompany them to all court appearances.

We do not attend any court appearances that are not directly related to domestic violence and sexual assault.

The court advocate does not speak for the client but can stand with them on the witness stand or in the judge’s chambers.

The court advocate can also meet with the client prior to any court appearances and assist with preparation.
